A message from our Superintendent
Dear Brushton-Moira Families,
All of New York State school districts have been tasked with creating a comprehensive facilities reopening plan for the 2020-21 school year. Our school district has formed a reopening team which consists of parents, community members, alumni, doctor, nurse, teachers, support staff, administrators, department heads, counselors, psychologist and special education personnel. We have been in conversations with Franklin County Public Health and are following New York State Public Health recommendations.
Our worked is based on the following guiding principles:
Protect students, staff and the health of our community
Foster learning and well-being
Maintain a positive learning environment
Emotional health
The District Committee has begun to formulate reopening plans that take into consideration all current guidelines set by the state and local departments. As always we must ensure the safety of all students and staff. We also understand that any plan besides our traditional in person instruction plan will create hardships for our families. Our reopening plan will continuously be updated to align with the current health risk of our school community.
In regards to fall sports, the following was a press release from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association:
“The Officers of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), voted to delay the official start date of the Fall 2020 sports season, cancel the Fall 2020 Regional and State Championships and prepare to implement a condensed season schedule in January 2021 if high school sports remain prohibited throughout 2020 due to COVID-19. This decision comes at the recommendation of the NYSPHSAA COVID-19 Task Force when they convened as a working group.”
We will continue to work hard to ensure your children’s safety and educational goals are our first and foremost objective as we move ahead in these unforeseen times. We will be releasing our plan to a public link later this week once our plan is in the final phase of completion. As always, thank you for all of your support to our school community.
Sincerely,
Todd M. LaPage
